Rape Culture - Mass Media

Reported rape cases have gone down dramatically from 1993 until now by over 50%! Does that mean that people just aren’t reporting rape cases because they are ashamed or is it because rape has gone down? In the United States rape occurs every minute and a half and there are over 237,368 rape cases a year and that is not including all the cases that go unreported. Rape is a big deal it demoralizes and belittles a person to the point often to where the victim commits suicide. People have gone very many years without telling anyone about being raped and it has caused them to fall into depression and even pull themselves out of social society completely. When people get raped they have a fear of getting raped again and have trust issues throughout their lives.

There are songs out today that make woman look and sound like a piece of meat and that a man pretty much can do anything with her he wants just because he is a man. The music videos and movies with women barley clothed and showing off what they got doesn’t help the case either. The music videos are bad today because it shows one guy with a bunch of different women and he grabs them and does pretty much whatever he wants with her. At least that is what it looks like, so many people get the wrong idea and think it’s okay but that’s the way the mass media groups want it to be perceived.
